  • ICCO Adopted CBDRM Program

  • This program is launched on beginning of June 2008.

  • CBDRM was started inKajab village at Miandan Wardak Province, Behsood I and Behsood II districts since December 2008.

  • In Bamyan province three Rescue Committee was established in Golestan village in center of Bamyan, Sar-e-Qol Chap Dara village in center of Bamyan, Golestan village in center of Bamyan

  • The main disaster experience in mentioned villages are: - Flood water, Avalanches, Tide of river in spring season, Landslide, Downpour of rock

Community Based Disaster Recovery Management


1. Background

CBDRM is the collection of activities that implement basically by community members that are living in disaster areas to decrease the rescue of disasters or other word, CBDRM is a process that community in disaster areas takes action to access, analyze, fight, monitor and evaluate of disaster risks to reduce vulnerability and enabling themselves to have the capacity to manage these risks.

3. Overview of the CBDRM activities in Maindan Wardak and Bamyan Province

This program is launched on beginning of June 2008. the first workshop of CBDRM was started on August 16 in Kabul and continued until 21st of August, 2008. the second workshop was conducted in Philippine from 17-29 November, 2008. CCA conducted the first CBDRM workshop in Bamyan and Maidan Waradk province on December 2008 by CBDRM officer of the organization. CBDRM officer start assessment, study and selection of the villages which suffered more from disasters. The village of Kajab from Behsood district of Maidan Wardak province was selected for this program. And CBDRM officer conducted awareness rising workshop about the goal and objective of CBDRM program in the village. The implementing of program activity in the field was stopped during the January, February and March because heavy snowing and block of the way. CBDRM officer conducted the Global Survey of Disaster in Kabul, Daikundi, Bamyan and Maidan Wardak by supporting of Church World Service (CWS). And he conducted survey of “ Cost of the War” in Kabul and its districts by supporting of Oxfam GB. He conducted survey of Conflict Analyzing in Maidan Wardak with partnership of AWEC during the April 2009. Survey, assessment and selecting of villages that effected from disaster by CBDRM officer in Bamyan in April 2009 started and finally villages of Dahan e Shekari, Gulistan and Sar-e-Qol Chap Dara selected for CBDRM in Bamyan. In May conducted workshops to mentioned villages of Bamyan (community members, CDC, elders and women) in order to raise their awareness about the goal and objective of CBDRM.
